Merari is a born and raised Houstonian and has over 12 years of experience in probate, estate planning, and tax law. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Saint Thomas and her Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law Houston. During law school, Merari worked as a student attorney with the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, where she represented taxpayers against the Internal Revenue Service, which earned Merari’s entry into the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas. Merari joined Romano & Sumner in 2020.
I was 7 years old when I proudly announced to my family that I was going to be an attorney. I am not sure what spurred the decision, but I distinctly remember knowing that attorneys helped people, which is all I wanted to do. Thankfully, my parents were not surprised by the decision and gave me their full support and encouragement. In 2019, my decades old dream finally came true as I was sworn in as a licensed attorney in front of my loving family and friends.
As a born and raised Houstonian, I take special pride in my city and community. I attended Bellaire High School where I was the Battalion Commander of the JROTC corp. and a member of several volunteer organizations. Through those organizations, I discovered my passion for volunteering. While earning my undergraduate degree at the University of Saint Thomas, a small university in the heart of the Montrose District in Houston, I continued to volunteer with local women’s shelters and nursing homes. However, it was during law school that I realized just how prolific my decades old dream would be.
While earning my law degree at South Texas College of Law Houston, I joined the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) where I represented several clients against the IRS pro bono. Although it was very hard work and long hours, seeing the relief and joy on my clients’ faces when we settled/won their cases made it all worthwhile and reaffirmed my calling as an advocate.
I graduated from law school in December 2019. I could not have done so without the constant encouragement and support of my family and the best study buddy ever – my 12-year-old dachshund, Millie.
I am blessed to have joined the team at Romano & Sumner, which shares my passion for helping our community. My practice areas include estate planning, probate, and elder law. Whether you’re in need of a simple Will or a complicated probate matter, we are here to assist in any way we can.
