Client Review

"When we first met Paul, we were struck by how well he grasped the situation at our first meeting. We interviewed at least 5 attorneys and no one else was able to understand the “big picture” and work to see all sides treated fairly. Over time, we’ve also had opportunities to work with Axel Lindholm and Kenny Sumner on matters and have found they exhibit the same integrity, diligence and meticulous attention to detail we so value in Paul."

In Their Own Words

Paul Romano and Kenneth Sumner explain their stories

Paul Romano

Albert Romano - Houston, Texas

Albert Romano

I think that people should have an opportunity to get to know an attorney before they hire one. My name is Paul Albert Romano. “Albert” comes from my father, Albert Romano, who was an Optometrist in Houston, Texas for over fifty years. Dad is 81 years old now and retired from the eye business, but he is still my role model and inspiration. I am his only child, and I feel an obligation to carry on his legacy in an honorable manner.

I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I grew up in a part of Houston called Memorial, and I went to the Kinkaid School from first grade until I graduated from high school. After high school, I attended the University of Texas in Austin, Texas where I received a degree in business finance.

After graduating from college I had dreams of becoming a lawyer some day; however, I felt I needed to see the world first. So, I joined the United States Army. In the Army I was stationed in Germany, Korea, Honduras and various army installations in the United States. I started out as an enlisted soldier in the intelligence corp, but I was accepted to officer candidate school in my second year and became a military intelligence officer. As much as I enjoyed the service, I still longed to practice law some day.

Paul Romano GolfingAfter five years in the Army I left to fulfill my dream of becoming an attorney at the University of Texas School of Law. In 2002 I graduated and received my license to practice law.

I began my career as an attorney in Victoria, Texas where I learned from some of the best lawyers I know while practicing at a local firm called Cole, Cole & Easley. In 2008 my father was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Although dad survived his cancer, I decided that it was time for me to move back home.

In September of 2009, I moved my practice to Sugar Land, Texas. My office is located at 4610 Sweetwater Blvd, Ste. 200 Sugar Land, Tx.

My practice focuses on estate litigation, trust litigation, contested guardianshps, probate and estate planning. I represent clients in Houston, Harris County and Sugar Land, Ft. Bend County. Fill out this contact form and get a free consultation.

Kenneth “Kenny” Sumner, Jr.

Kenny's kidsI was born in Littleton, Colorado, but didn’t stay there long.  My father was an engineer who worked for a large oil company, and when I was six we were transferred overseas to England.  We moved around quite a bit, but spent the majority of time in London.  Like most kids, I wasn’t able to recognize at the time how fantastic an opportunity this was and how it shaped the way I view the world.  I attended both American schools (I am an Alumni of the American School in London or “ASL”) as well as English grammar schools (where we wore uniforms and where I learned to write with a fountain pen and tie a tie).  Being exposed to two very different school systems honed my ability to approach problems in a variety of ways—a skill that has served me well.

Our family moved back to the United States—to Sugar Land, Texas—where I attended Clements High School.  I went on to the University of Houston where I completed my undergraduate in Information Technology and the Entrepreneurship Program.  It was here that I developed my passion for small business.  I later began Law School at South Texas College of Law and then transferred to the University of Houston Law Center, where I served on the Houston Journal of Health Law and Policy.  I clerked at several law firms in Houston and interned for the Texas Supreme Court.  After Law School, I started at a large Houston Law Firm, before striking out on my own.  In April of 2013 I partnered with Paul Romano to form the Sugar Land law firm of Romano & Sumner, PLLC.

My practice focuses on Litigation, advising startup Businesses, and issues involving the Texas Estate Codes such as Wills, Trusts, Probate and Guardianships. I have met the certification to be able to bring and defend Guardianship proceedings in the State of Texas, and am also routinely appointed by Courts to serve as an Attorney Ad Litem and/or Guardian Ad Litem to protect the interests of a proposes ward.

My wife, Cynthia, and I have two children.  I am a volunteer for Fort Bend Lawyers Care, a non-profit organization that provides legal services to indigent parties in Fort Bend County, and I am also a Member of Fort Bend CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), an organization that assigns members as Guardian Ad Litems for children taken into the State of Texas Custody by Child Protective Services.  I live locally and believe in supporting our community.

It is my hope that you have been able to find out more about me which in turn provides a level of comfort and confidence should you honor me with the ability to represent you.

Emmie Schulte

Emmie Schulte in Katy, TexasI was born in Waco, Texas, and shortly thereafter, my family moved to Lubbock, Texas while my father was attending Texas Tech University law school. I still remember sitting through his graduation with excitement and simply admiring what most four-year-old children would consider boring to the point of tears. My favorite memory of that day was trying on his graduation cap. I knew at that moment, I wanted to be just like my dad.

My family moved to Houston, Texas in 1985 where my father began practicing law. He would take me to his office often, and I would raid the kitchen for Dr. Pepper and snacks. I very much enjoyed watching him work and assisting with his “Dictaphone” on a regular basis. Because of those incredibly touching moments, my passion for practicing law grew, and I always pictured myself as a lawyer.

I grew up in Katy, Texas, mostly, and after graduating from James E. Taylor High School, I followed in my father’s footsteps and moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University. I graduated with a degree in psychology, and I returned to Houston where I began clerking for civil litigation attorneys (yep, dad included). After two years of learning and growing, I began my legal studies at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School (then “Thomas Cooley Law School”) in Lansing, Michigan. I managed to survive those frigid three years and moved to Louisville, Kentucky after graduation in April of 2009.

Emmie Schulte and her daughterIn Louisville, my law career began with the best position around, a staff attorney for a family law judge. Thereafter, I moved into private firms and began my general civil litigation adventures. I learned that my passion was to practice in areas of law that assisted families, including estate planning, estate administration, and estate and fiduciary litigation, just to name a few. It was very important to me to help people plan for their loved ones, in the event of their own passing, and to provide guidance and peace to families during that sensitive and difficult time when a loved one passes.

Louisville was fantastic, and I loved attending the Kentucky Derby and many other races, but my heart was back in Texas. I returned to Houston in early 2014 where I joined a company as in-house counsel to assist with probate related matters. After four years, I returned to the private practice of probate litigation.

I happily reside in Katy, Texas with my six-year-old daughter, Reaves. We enjoy seeing my dad and her Poppy as often as we can.
