Client Review

"When we first met Paul, we were struck by how well he grasped the situation at our first meeting. We interviewed at least 5 attorneys and no one else was able to understand the “big picture” and work to see all sides treated fairly. Over time, we’ve also had opportunities to work with Axel Lindholm and Kenny Sumner on matters and have found they exhibit the same integrity, diligence and meticulous attention to detail we so value in Paul."

In Their Own Words

Paul Romano and Kenneth Sumner explain their stories

Paul Romano

Albert Romano - Houston, Texas

Albert Romano

I think that people should have an opportunity to get to know an attorney before they hire one. My name is Paul Albert Romano. “Albert” comes from my father, Albert Romano, who was an Optometrist in Houston, Texas for over fifty years. Dad is 81 years old now and retired from the eye business, but he is still my role model and inspiration. I am his only child, and I feel an obligation to carry on his legacy in an honorable manner.

I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I grew up in a part of Houston called Memorial, and I went to the Kinkaid School from first grade until I graduated from high school. After high school, I attended the University of Texas in Austin, Texas where I received a degree in business finance.

After graduating from college I had dreams of becoming a lawyer some day; however, I felt I needed to see the world first. So, I joined the United States Army. In the Army I was stationed in Germany, Korea, Honduras and various army installations in the United States. I started out as an enlisted soldier in the intelligence corp, but I was accepted to officer candidate school in my second year and became a military intelligence officer. As much as I enjoyed the service, I still longed to practice law some day.

Paul Romano GolfingAfter five years in the Army I left to fulfill my dream of becoming an attorney at the University of Texas School of Law. In 2002 I graduated and received my license to practice law.

I began my career as an attorney in Victoria, Texas where I learned from some of the best lawyers I know while practicing at a local firm called Cole, Cole & Easley. In 2008 my father was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Although dad survived his cancer, I decided that it was time for me to move back home.

In September of 2009, I moved my practice to Sugar Land, Texas. My office is located at 2245 Texas Drive in the Sugar Land Town Square accross from Escalantes Mexican Restaurant and right next door to the Flying Saucer.

My practice focuses on estate litigation, trust litigation, contested guardianshps, probate and estate planning. I represent clients in Houston, Harris County and Sugar Land, Ft. Bend County. Fill out this contact form and get a free consultation.

Kenneth “Kenny” Sumner, Jr.

Kenny's kidsI was born in Littleton, Colorado, but didn’t stay there long.  My father was an engineer who worked for a large oil company, and when I was six we were transferred overseas to England.  We moved around quite a bit, but spent the majority of time in London.  Like most kids, I wasn’t able to recognize at the time how fantastic an opportunity this was and how it shaped the way I view the world.  I attended both American schools (I am an Alumni of the American School in London or “ASL”) as well as English grammar schools (where we wore uniforms and where I learned to write with a fountain pen and tie a tie).  Being exposed to two very different school systems honed my ability to approach problems in a variety of ways—a skill that has served me well.

Our family moved back to the United States—to Sugar Land, Texas—where I attended Clements High School.  I went on to the University of Houston where I completed my undergraduate in Information Technology and the Entrepreneurship Program.  It was here that I developed my passion for small business.  I later began Law School at South Texas College of Law and then transferred to the University of Houston Law Center, where I served on the Houston Journal of Health Law and Policy.  I clerked at several law firms in Houston and interned for the Texas Supreme Court.  After Law School, I started at a large Houston Law Firm, before striking out on my own.  In April of 2013 I partnered with Paul Romano to form the Sugar Land law firm of Romano & Sumner, LLC.

I initially started my practice focusing on Litigation, advising startup Businesses, and Wills, Trusts and Probate.  My volunteer work with children led me to practice Family Law for a period of my career, as well.

My wife, Cynthia, and I have two children.  I am a volunteer for Fort Bend Lawyers Care, a non-profit organization that provides legal services to indigent parties in Fort Bend County, and I am also a Member of Fort Bend CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), an organization that assigns members as Guardian Ad Litems for children taken into the State of Texas Custody by Child Protective Services.  I live locally and believe in supporting our community.

It is my hope that you have been able to find out more about me which in turn provides a level of comfort and confidence should you honor me with the ability to represent you.

Axel Lindholm

I was born in Helsinki, Finland. When I was 5 years old, my family emigrated to South Florida. I enjoyed the fact that I was able to spend my childhood near some of the greatest beaches in the world. However, I knew in my adolescence that I wanted to see more of the world.

After graduating high school, I moved to Texas, because why not? “Texas DOES have the best barbecue and Tex-Mex food!” Unfortunately, I quickly learned that the weather was vastly different from the perpetual 78 degrees I was accustomed to in Florida.

sadieWhile in college, I was originally drawn to a career in police forensics, based in large part to my love a police and criminal forensic TV shows! My study of criminal justice naturally morphed into a fascination with the law and led me to law school. While studying at the University of Texas School of Law, I turned my attention to estate planning and tax law.

Estate planning is essentially about protecting your assets. Most of all, estate planning is about protecting what most folks consider paramount: your desire for what happens to everything you’ve built during your lifetime after you pass away. Most of all, I enjoy speaking with clients, hearing their unique life stories, and drafting an optimum estate plan which takes all of their unique factors into consideration.

My tax practice stems from having an analytical mind. Like many puzzles, tax issues often have multiple solutions. When a client presents a tax issue, I strive to find the best solution.

My wife Shannon and I have one child, Sadie. I treasure the time spent with my family and we love traveling to new places.

No matter the legal issues you may be facing, I am always willing to listen and am confident that together we will find a solution. Please contact our office to schedule a free consultation. I look forward to hearing from you.
